Changelog for WinCatalog 2026.3
Changelog for WinCatalog 2026.3
Released July 2026.
New features
- GPS search for photos. WinCatalog reads GPS coordinates from images and RAW files and lets you search by location offline. Two new rows on the Exif tab — Has GPS coordinates and Within a distance of a place — plus a location picker listing the places already present in your catalog. Right-click a photo to show it on a map or to find photos taken nearby. New Place and Map link property rows and the
%gps_city%/%gps_link%tokens for Dynamic Columns. Place data by GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). - Path filter on the Main tab of the additional search options. Filter search results by the full file path, with Contains and Advanced query conditions.
- Duplicate selection commands. A toolbar above duplicate search results selects copies by date, size, path length, folder depth, drive or folder in one click. See Selecting Duplicates in Search Results.
- Drag or paste an image to set a thumbnail. Drop an image file onto any Properties page, or paste one from the clipboard, and it becomes the item’s thumbnail. See the Thumbnails tab.
- Reorder report columns by dragging column headers. See Configure Columns in the Grid View.
- New
%drive_letter%token for Dynamic Columns: a bare drive letter for local disks, the server name for network paths. - Explorer button on the Info page of the backstage view, opening the folder that holds the current catalog file.
Improvements
- Faster folder sorting in large catalogs.
- Files that failed to scan once are marked and skipped on later updates instead of being retried every time.
- Scan plugins now stop when they stall rather than after a fixed timeout, so one stuck file no longer holds up the scan.
- More accurate scanning speed shown during a scan.
- The post-scan errors and warnings window is hidden by default. Turn it back on in the scanning profile options.
- The Tags, Locations and User-Defined Fields managers scale with the zoom setting.
- Custom keyboard shortcuts now carry over correctly when upgrading from an earlier version.
- Refreshed translations for all supported languages.
Fixes
- The Contains condition in text search filters no longer loses its wildcard, so partial-word searches return the expected results.
- Fixed filter chaining when conditions are combined with duplicate search or restrict by fields.
- Fixed a crash when deleting more than about three duplicate files or folders at once.
- Deleting real files runs as a single batch through the Windows shell, which fixes a race condition and correctly reports success when files go to the Recycle Bin. Deleting a folder also removes its children from the file operation queue.
- Fixed the false “Scanning Interrupted” message after restoring a minimized update window.
- Fixed a case where WinCatalog refused to open a catalog that was not actually open.
- Fixed pop-up menus collapsing as they opened, and flickering of the backstage view on mouse movement.
