Upgrade to the latest version - WinCatalog 2026

Upgrade to WinCatalog 2026 disk and file catalog software for Windows

New in WinCatalog 2026

  • AI-powered image search with AI Bridge: describe what you want to find in plain English and WinCatalog returns matching pictures from across your catalog. [expand more »]
Natural-language search for your photos and images

AI Bridge is a new companion tool that reads the thumbnails already stored in your catalog and writes a short caption, a set of keywords, a category label, and a shot type for every image. All of this is saved in the catalog database and becomes searchable immediately. A search for "sunset on a beach" or "people at a birthday party" returns the right pictures even when those words are not in the filename or EXIF tags.

It works on JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, and RAW images, and on any video files that already have generated thumbnails.

AI Bridge runs on your own computer using LM Studio or Ollama, so no images or data leave your machine. The AI model is downloaded once and reused, and there are no per-image fees or subscriptions.

  • eComic scanning (CBZ, CBR, CB7): catalog your digital comics the same way as any other file. Title, series, author, and issue number are read straight out of each archive. [expand more »]
    Scan comic book archives directly

WinCatalog 2026 reads the ComicInfo.xml metadata embedded inside CBZ, CBR, and CB7 archives and pulls out title, series, writer, publisher, issue number, and the rest of the standard comic fields. Your digital comics collection becomes searchable and sortable like the rest of your catalog.

  • Font files with preview thumbnails: pick a font by looking at it. TTF and OTF files get a thumbnail showing the font name and a pangram sample rendered in that actual typeface. [expand more »]
    Visual browsing for font collections

For every TTF or OTF file in your catalog, WinCatalog now renders a preview thumbnail that displays the font name together with a pre-defined pangram phrase ("The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog 0123456789") in the typeface itself. If you keep hundreds or thousands of fonts on disk, you can finally browse them by eye in the standard WinCatalog grid view instead of opening each file separately.

  • 3D model support (STL, 3MF): every STL or 3MF file gets a rendered preview thumbnail, so your 3D print library stops being a wall of identical icons. [expand more »]
    Thumbnails for 3D assets

WinCatalog 2026 reads STL and 3MF model files and renders a standard isometric preview for each one. You can scan a folder of 3D prints, then see at a glance which file is which without opening them in a slicer.

  • Disk image scanning (ISO, VHD, VMDK, VDI, WIM): look inside a disk image without mounting it. WinCatalog reads the file structure from the image directly and adds it to your catalog. [expand more »]
    Scan inside disk images directly

Installation media, virtual machine disks, Windows imaging files, and system backups become browsable from within your WinCatalog. Version 2026 supports ISO, VHD, VMDK, VDI, and WIM files and treats their contents as regular folders in the catalog tree.

  • Plus many smaller improvements based on user feedback: a renamed Metadata tab, a redesigned post-scan error dialog, a default scanning profile, configurable EXE icon extraction, and more. [expand more »]
    Smaller improvements across the app
    • The Multimedia tab in the Properties panel is now called Metadata. It shows comic book information for eComic files, AI-generated descriptions, and folder and file comments parsed from descript.ion readme files.
    • The post-scan error and warning dialog was redesigned. You can sort the results, copy them to the clipboard, save them to a file, and resize the window.
    • Mark any scanning profile as the default with a star toggle. Renaming a profile updates everywhere in the interface immediately.
    • EXE icon extraction during scanning is now configurable, so you can turn it on only when you need it.
    • The status bar moved from individual tabs to the main window.
    • Background maintenance of the external search index is more stable. Various performance and stability fixes are included as well.

    New Advanced Search Options

In addition to searching by basic file attributes like filename, size, or dates created and modified, WinCatalog 2024 adds the ability to search by specific fields automatically extracted from files: by Exif tags for photos, ID3 tags for audio files, or by video attributes. This video demonstrates an example of searching by Exif tags in WinCatalog 2024:

  • Diacritic-insensitive (or accent-insensitive) search: you can bid farewell to the frustration of meticulously accounting for these nuances, as WinCatalog now ensures that such distinctions no longer impede the search process. [expand more »]
    Diacritic (or accent)-insensitive search

With the diacritic-insensitive search, you can bid farewell to the frustration of meticulously accounting for these nuances, as WinCatalog now ensures that such distinctions no longer impede the search process.

This enhancement brings a significant level of convenience to those who frequently deal with diverse languages or variations in text representations.

Whether it's finding files with accented characters, umlauts, or other diacritics, WinCatalog's new feature offers a seamless experience.

You can now enter your search queries without having to consider these linguistic subtleties, allowing for a more natural and fluid interaction with the software.

This feature is available since the version 2024.2

  • Custom Icons for any Entry: add a new visual level of categorization, assign individual icons to entries in the catalog selecting from a ready-to-use list of 250+ icons. [expand more »]

  • New Keyboard-Driven Tag Management: now it's a way easier to assign tags to individual entries, or groups of entries. The Tags page of the Properties window displays tags in three sections; the live filtering box in combination with keyboard shortcuts makes it easier to add, assign, unassign, or rename tags. If you use tags, you'll love these changes. [expand more »]

    Multi-page Browsable HTML Reports

WinCatalog 2024 adds the new report type - multi-page browsable HTML reports. Now you can create an HTML copy of your catalog files for sending to someone or publishing.

The reports engine under the hood makes it possible to generate reports of any size, this applies to all the supported report types: XML, CSV, HTML, and multi-page HTML reports.

  • A lot of smaller improvements and performance optimizations based on user feedback.

New in WinCatalog 2023

  • The ability to grab text from PDF files having text layer and make it searchable.
  • The ability to limit the number of picture thumbnails of different types per folder.
  • The new processing engine for RAW images that works faster.
  • Minor improvements and bug fixes.
  • All features of the 2021 and 2020 versions are included in the 2023 version as well.

New in WinCatalog 2021

  • The scanning speed was increased for cases when grabbing a large number of thumbnails (from pictures and photos).
  • The Scanning Options UI was redesigned. It is large monitors and high scaling factors friendly now.
  • The ability to use individual settings for different types of thumbnails (pictures, RAW images, PDF files, video files, book covers, album covers).
  • Transparency for thumbnails: thumbnails for images that may have transparency are stored in PNG format. WinCatalog continues using JPG format for storing thumbnails for image formats that don't have transparent parts.
  • The Select Folder window can now display hidden folders and allows adding entries by typing or pasting Paths, even if these paths can't be selected in the Tree View above.
  • Jumping to files in the Grid View. Start typing in the Grid View and the first item with a name that begins with the entered text will be selected.
  • All features of the 2020 version are included in the 2021 version as well.

New in WinCatalog 2020

  • Introducing the new feature: the ability to open more than one Main tab.
  • Previously, you could open several Search tabs at a time, but only one Main tab was allowed. The new version removes this limitation. Watch a short video below showing the new feature in action: [expand more »]
  • Significant improvement: the search speed was increased, now WinCatalog can search up to 5 times faster on an average computer and results pop up immediately when WinCatalog finds them.
  • One of the key features of the upcoming 2020 update is the improved search speed.
  • We moved the search index outside the catalog file, so now WinCatalog can use the full power of your computer when using the search index.
  • If the catalog file (and the search index) is located on an SSD drive, the search may be up to 5 times faster on an average computer and results pop up immediately without a need to wait until the search is finished.
  • Watch a short video below showing the search speed comparison of WinCatalog 2020 vs WinCatalog 2019: [expand more »]
